Trump can’t speak during closing arguments in NY civil fraud trial, judge says

Judge Arthur Engoron indicated Wednesday that Donald Trump is unlikely to testify during final arguments in his $370 million civil fraud trial in New York.

Engoron stated in a letter to Trump's counsel and New York Attorney General Letitia James shortly after noon Wednesday that Trump had not agreed to the requirements he set for the former president to make a statement.

"Not having heard from you by the third extended deadline (noon today), I assume that Mr. Trump will not agree to the reasonable, lawful limits I have imposed as a precondition to giving a closing statement above and beyond those given by his attorneys, and that, therefore, he will not be speaking in court tomorrow," Engoron wrote in an email.

Trump and his staff have used his court hearings to accuse Joe Biden of election tampering, depict his legal difficulties as political persecution, and divert media attention away from his Republican competitors, who have struggled to close the gap on his substantial lead in the polls.

Trump is not facing criminal charges in the civil fraud case, but the claims against him are personal, as the New York attorney general seeks $370 million in damages and prohibits Trump from conducting business in the state.

The New York attorney general claims that Trump, his two adult sons, and his corporation cheated banks and insurance companies by misrepresenting the worth of the former president's assets in order to secure better interest rates. Engoron

In Canada, a journalist is arrested for merely asking uncomfortable questions to a Canadian minister.

Let's see how many international "free press champions" speak on this.

They start outraging even if any Chinese agent posing as a journo is arrested in India,

Two police officers arrest a journalist for asking tough Qs to a minister in @JustinTrudeau government.
They arrest him for ASSAULT of one police officer who clearly came in his way!

NOTE: Canada ranked 15th in the World Press Freedom Index 2023. *15th!*
